Marketing is a fast-paced industry, and if you aren’t able to keep up with the trends, it’s easy to fall behind. With this in mind, I made a list of marketing news sources that you can follow, which will help you to keep up with the trends, explore what you like (and what you don’t like), and potentially shine in your interviews!

  1. Marketing Land - To all Digital Marketing lovers, Marketing Land is one of the best publications to subscribe to! It covers everything related to digital marketing and changes in industry trends along with its sister publications, Search Engine Land - News On Search Engines, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) & Search Engine Marketing (SEM), and MarTech Today - Marketing Technology News & Management Insights.

  2. Ad Age - From our guest speaker this Tuesday, Josh Golden from Ad Age, you already know that they specialize in publishing and advertising. They host events and virtual conferences that offer amazing content for anyone who wishes to keep their eyes on advertising in different industries. Or, you can also just keep a lookout on their “The Week Ahead” and get an idea of different industries’ advertising strategies and changes in their trends.

  3. American Marketing Association(AMA) - As the name suggests, AMA brings general marketing news together on a single platform. Further, they also have certain professional certifications on various marketing topics including digital marketing, content marketing etc. With their undergrad subscription (lower cost plus some student benefits), this publication is definitely useful for anyone who is considering marketing!

  4. Marketing Dive - Focusing on the “newer” side of marketing, Marketing Dive talks about influencer marketing, marketing tech, social media marketing, and more. Personally, I enjoy reading the marketing tech section of the publication since it shows how technology and marketing merge together. Marketing Dive’s sister publication Retail Dive is another great resource for anyone who is interested in retail + marketing!

  5. Ad Week - Another publication for the advertising-loving folks (or if you just want to explore the industry), Ad Week is a good source to follow! Ad Week has a variety of resources for getting a better understanding of brand advertising in different industries. For example, their Brandweek Masterclasses or Podcasts are worth attending/listening to as well as the Microlearning section, which is great to read in the morning with a cup of coffee.

  6. Hubspot Blog - Don’t be misled by the “blog” title - Hubspot’s blog is one of the best sites to read and understand how the marketing industry is under constant change. Hubspot does an excellent job of explaining basic and complex marketing techniques (especially social media). These techniques really helped me out during interviews and in my current internship!

  7. Hootsuite Blog - Similar to Hubspot, Hootsuite is a similar basic social media marketing blog. Even though both of these companies are usually used for content management or marketing analytics, their blogs are just as good. If you are looking for something that will break down social media marketing tactics, you should go for either of these blogs (or both!).

  8. Buffer Blog - Like Hootsuite and Hubspot, Buffer is one of the best social media marketing tools used in the industry. And just like its amazing reputation in social media marketing, it has an amazing blog on social media marketing that breaks down its most difficult aspects. Hubspot, Hootsuite, and Buffer together make up the golden trio!

  9. Digiday - Digiday is a worldwide media, marketing, and marketing tech publisher. They have the most trendy news in their respective field. Although almost all of their articles are only available to members, it is a worthy publisher to subscribe to, and it will give you access to their events as well as insightful podcasts!

  10. Inc. Marketing - Deviating from the marketing trends, Inc. Marketing focuses on growing companies and how those companies incorporate different aspects of business, including marketing, sales, etc in their success. This digital/print publication has engaging and informative articles that will certainly help you.

There you have it! Ten articulate and information-packed news/blog resources to follow. As a budding marketing professional, you should know what’s going on in the industry, and therefore, paying attention to industry trends is essential. Find out what news/blog resource fits best with your interests and start reading a few articles per week. I hope these resources help you out as much as they have helped me out!

Some other remarkable and mainstream popular news sources include - NY Times Advertising and Marketing, Forbes CMO, Facebook Blog, Google Blog, Instagram Blog, Google AdWords Blog.
